Is this a "must-have" extension? Yes, and it's free. Of all the extensions for Joomla, there are few extensions, commercial or free, that every Joomla user should have. JoomlaXplorer, the free file manager Component, makes file handling much easier. While Joomla is an excellent application, the file management features in Joomla without JoomlaXplorer are not nearly as robust as they should be. Developed by Sören Eberhardt, the JoomlaXplorer Component is so useful that no serious Joomla user would be without it. Sören Eberhardt is also developing a new file manager, eXtplorer, which appears to be even more powerful and user-friendly than JoomlaXplorer, for Joomla 1.0 and 1.5. It is still in Beta testing at this point. The settings on eXtplorer need to be set right to avoid hacking, so care should be used in installation of the component, at least until a stable version is released. I would not currently recommend it for a lawyer or law firm site.
