Click here for an excellent tutorial on installing and managing templates on a Joomla website.
Most people assume that a website can only have one template installed, but in Joomla, it is possible to have multiple templates installed, and to change the look of the site in a minute or less by switching the default template, or by switching the color style of the template. For instance, this site uses Versatility III from RocketTheme, but there are 20 different color style options with this single template.
Simply put, to install a new template, the user must first download the compressed template onto a hard drive, often onto a desktop. Then, the user must go to the administrative portion of the site, choose Installers > Template Site, then click the Browse button on the page. In the browse window, choose the template file and click the Upload button. Usually, in a minute or two, a Success screen shows that the template has been installed. To make the new template the default template, click the radio button next to the template name, click the icon named Default, and the new template is the default.
Often, minor adjustments must be made when a new template is made the default, so a close inspection is appropriate.
